ADAM Adopt Adelie Penguins For Christmas

Penguins Following the huge success of ADAM’s Polar Bear adoption gifts last Christmas, ADAM are treating their customers to another ethical gift in 2009: The adoption of an Adélie Penguin each for one year. Rather than sending greetings cards and corporate gifts, the adoptions are ADAM’s way of thanking our customers in an environmentally sound way.

The Adélie Penguins are located in South Antarctica in the Dumont d'Urville, one of the harshest regions in the world. With temperatures reaching -40c and wind speeds of up to 300km per hour, the penguins oiled feathers provide a waterproof wetsuit that provides up to 90% thermal insulation. As global warming increases, up to 75% of all penguin colonies face decline. This, along with illegal fishing of their main food source Krill, has seen the Adélie Penguins numbers dwindle by 65% in the last 25 years.

ADAM’s donations will help the WWF to safeguard the future of the marine environment in general, and to actively work towards preventing the extinction of this endangered species. The WWF are active in tackling some of the biggest conservation challenges facing our world today, and are strongly urging the world's governments to make serious reductions in gas emissions in order to prevent the serious consequences that will be felt across the globe by both humans and animals.

ADAM and their customers can enjoy the festive season happy in the knowledge that their donations are being put to fantastic use with such a great cause this Christmas!
